CS2 Skin Trading Glossary — Float, Seed, Phase, Tier
The words CS2 skin traders use, one paragraph each, definition first. The same words appear on every CSWatcher card, so this is also the card’s legend.
Float
A number between 0 and 1 that describes how worn a skin is; lower is cleaner. It is fixed when the item is created and shown on every marketplace listing. Two copies of the same skin in the same wear can differ a lot in price because of it.
Wear (exterior)
The five named ranges of float: Factory New (0.00–0.07), Minimal Wear (0.07–0.15), Field-Tested (0.15–0.38), Well-Worn (0.38–0.45) and Battle-Scarred (0.45–1.00). A marketplace lists each wear as its own item.
Float band
A slice of a wear’s float range, such as 0.15–0.18 inside Field-Tested. CSWatcher prices each band on its own because a lower float sells for more; a card’s strip shows one ceiling per band.
Ceiling
The highest price a filter will accept for a listing. On a Smart Watcher card it is set per float band: 95% of the lowest listing seen in that band, and typable.
Paint seed (pattern)
A number from 0 to 999 that decides how the finish is placed on the model. It is why one Case Hardened is a blue gem and another is not. Marketplaces show it; tier lists rank it.
Tier list
A community ranking of paint seeds for one skin — Case Hardened blue gems as Tier 1 to Tier 3, Fade percentages, Crimson Web web counts. A listing whose seed is on a list can be judged by that tier’s own price ladder.
Doppler phase
A distinct finish of the Doppler and Gamma Doppler families: Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl, Emerald and Phases 1 to 4. Each has its own paint index and price, so each is priced as its own item.
Paint index
The identifier of a finish. A Doppler’s phases are different paint indexes of the same knife, which is how a marketplace filter can ask for a Ruby and nothing else.
StatTrak™ and Souvenir
Variants of a skin: StatTrak™ carries a kill counter, Souvenir comes from a tournament drop. Both are separate items with separate prices, and CSWatcher hunts the plain skin unless you ask for a variant.
Listing
One copy of an item offered for sale on a marketplace at a price, with its float, seed and stickers. Sniping is about catching a listing, not an item.
Sniping
Buying an underpriced listing before anyone else does. Manual sniping is refreshing and hoping; automated sniping is a filter watching the marketplace and acting on a match.
Filter
A saved description of what to catch: item or search, price or discount rule, float bracket, seed or tier rule, marketplace. Smart Watcher writes filters for you; the sniping page runs them.
Trigger rule
One line of a multi-item filter: an item with its own price rule, float bracket and tier picks. A multi-item filter is one search with several trigger rules.
Auto-Buy
Letting the filter complete the purchase when a listing matches. In CSWatcher it is off until armed with a typed confirmation, runs under a spend ceiling, and buys through your own signed-in session on the marketplaces that allow it.
Buy order
A standing offer to buy an item at a price, filled by the marketplace when a seller accepts. Orders fill at your price; snipers catch what orders cannot see, such as a float or a pattern.
Advised price
The reference price CSWatcher computes for an item in a float band from the listings it has read; the base the tier ladder is built on.
What is a float band?
A slice of an item's float range, for example 0.15 to 0.18 inside Field-Tested. CSWatcher prices each band on its own because a lower float sells for more.
What is a tier list?
A community ranking of paint seeds for one skin, such as Case Hardened blue gems ranked Tier 1 to Tier 3. A listing whose seed is on a list can be judged by that tier's own price ladder.
What is a Doppler phase?
A distinct finish of the Doppler and Gamma Doppler families: Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl, Emerald and Phases 1 to 4. Each is its own item with its own price and has to be priced separately.
